The Richmond Greens Say:
"More bicycling and better public
transportation."
Richmond Greens Bicyclists join the East
Bay Bicycle Coalition to form the "West Contra Costa
Bicycle Advisory Committee."
At the October meeting of the Richmond Greens, four members
of the formed the "Richmond Green Bicycle Contingent":
Our goals are to make bicycling safer in our area, improve and
expand our current bike trails and lanes, and promote biking
as an alternative means of transportation.
At our November meeting, Bill Pinkham and Howard Sodja reported
that they had a meeting with the East
Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) Executive Director to learn
how we can be most effective in achieving our goals. The Richmond
Green Bicycle Contingent also participated, along with the EBBC,
in a joint El Cerrito and Albany community meeting to create
a new mostly off-road bike trail from the Ohlone Greenway bike
path (under the Bart tracks) to the Bay Trail.
This bike and pedestrian trail will run along the now over-grown
and trash-filled creek that runs from the south side of the
El Cerrito Bart station, along the south-side of the Pacific
East Mall parking lot, then under the freeway and railroad tracks,
to the bay. Restoration of this creek is part of the plan.
The
Richmond Greens are joining with the EBBC
to form a "West Contra Costa Bicycle Advisory Committee"
that will give us more political clout when we approach those
who have jurisdiction over the areas of our concerns.
Join the Byking, make the roads byke friendly!

RICHMOND's BAY TRAIL CONSTRUCTION
Richmond
has become the Bay Trail City with more spine Bay Trail built
than any other city on this planned 400-mile recreation and
transportation corridor encircling San Francisco and San Pablo
Bays.
In 2002 Richmond reached a milestone by completing half of
its planned Bay Trail. With four miles of trail built during
2002, Richmond now has 18 miles of Bay Trail, linking neighborhoods
with Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline, the Lucretia Edwards, Vincent,
Marina Bay and Shimada Shoreline Parks, and Point Isabel Regional
Shoreline.
The
New Year Report describes almost five miles of additional trail
scheduled for constuction in 2003, as well as planning studies
underway which will lead to more completed trail links.
The
Richmond Bay Trail New Year Report is now available to download
as pdf files from: http://www.pointrichmond.com/baytrail/map.htm and http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us/trac/.
TRAC,
the Trails for Richmond Action Committee, encourages you,
your family and friends to get out and enjoy the Bay Trail in
Richmond. A larger map showing the completed trail also is available
at http://www.pointrichmond.com/baytrail/map.htm.
